5.0 Autonomous Capstone & Client Enablement

Overview

The final module is a culminating capstone that tests your ability to apply AI-first engineering in an open-ended, high-autonomy project. You'll function as an AI-accelerated tech lead, tackling a complex project almost independently.

What You'll Do

Select and complete a capstone project that demonstrates your AI-native engineering mastery. This is your "choose your own adventure" — you decide what to build and how to build it.

Capstone Project Options

Choose one (or propose your own):

Greenfield AI-Native App Build a brand-new product from scratch with AI. Implement at least one advanced feature and deploy it.

Legacy Uplift Take a legacy-style application or complex open-source project and modernize it using AI. Refactor, improve with an AI feature, containerize, and deploy.

Client Problem Simulation Solve a specific problem statement inspired by client scenarios. For example: implement an AI-driven monitoring dashboard, create a chatbot that integrates with existing services, or build an internal tool that solves a real pain point.

Primary Capabilities You'll Develop

End-to-End Solution Delivery

Demonstrate you can go from concept to shipped product:

  • Gather requirements (from a mock stakeholder or self-defined)
  • Write specifications
  • Implement with AI
  • Set up infrastructure
  • Deploy to a realistic environment

Manage an entire project lifecycle rapidly.

Adaptive Problem Solving

Without a pre-scripted tutorial:

  • Adapt AI tools to whatever challenge you choose
  • Overcome novel problems using AI research abilities
  • Handle unfamiliar technologies by prompting for explanations
  • Trust your skill in orchestrating AI to handle unknowns

Consulting & Enablement Skills

Prepare to evangelize AI-native workflows to others:

  • Explain the value of AI-driven development
  • Address common skepticisms
  • Introduce Spec-Driven Workflow to a traditional team
  • Frame benefits in terms of outcomes (faster delivery, higher quality, reduced costs)

Structure

Progress Checkpoints

Mid-module, you'll present what you have so far to a panel (simulating a client check-in). This helps you practice articulating your approach and results. You'll get feedback to incorporate for final delivery.

Final Demo Day

At the end of the module, you'll demo your finished product:

  • Show the functionality
  • Highlight how it was built in record time with AI
  • Walk through how specs led to code
  • Share obstacles overcome and how AI helped

This simulates pitching an AI-accelerated solution to a client or internal leadership.

Playbook & Retrospective

Collaborate with the wave on a final retrospective and consolidate learnings into an "AI Engineering Playbook for Client Enablement":

  • Summary of projects and outcomes
  • Best practices and first principles
  • Guidelines for introducing AI workflows to new teams
  • Common challenges and how to address them

Your capstone should be deployed, documented, and demonstrated. You should be able to articulate how AI-native engineering enabled you to build it faster than traditional approaches.
